New York City

WHERE TO EAT

The Musket Room

265 Elizabeth St.

This impressive, all-female kitchen went through a major transformation in February 2020. Chef Mary Attea’s menu explores fine dining from a fresh perspective, combining her and her staff’s family histories with nimble culinary expertise in an eclectic menu that draws inspiration from around the world. The atmosphere is elegant but friendly, with a distinctly neighborhood feel. (Don’t miss the renowned sweetbreads if they’re on the seasonal menu during your visit!)

Ernesto’s

259 East Broadway

Ernesto’s is a place to bask in Basque goodness, with classic components like Spanish tortillas, fried sardines and jambon Iberico. And beyond the classics, Chef Ryan Bartlow pushes the envelope, capturing the hearts of critics who hail his talent for marrying ingredients fancy (crab txangurro) and simple (eggs). Be sure to try the Bikini Hemingway sandwich with txistorra sausage, queso, and shrimp. You’ll leave wanting to become a regular, if not planning to just call it a day and move to the Pays Basque.

Principe

450 West Broadway

In the heart of Soho is this modern, elegant seafood-focused dinner spot by Eleven Madison Park’s Abram Bissel, where you’ll find dishes as simple as they are powerful. The roasted ½ lobster comes with matsutake mushrooms, polenta is treated to white truffles, and grilled duck is paired with foie gras: The principal driving Principe seems to be to live life to the fullest.

The Library at the Public

425 Lafayette St.

Perched on the mezzanine of the Public Theater, this speakeasy-styled restaurant and bar serves cocktails among cushy banquettes and leather-bound tomes. Take your drink with you into the theater or skip the show and join a lively conversation with artists and intellectuals at the bar.

TIP: Cardholders with eligible Capital One rewards cards like Venture X can access exclusive reservations at restaurants like Ernesto’s, Principe, and The Library at the Public with Capital One Dining.

Dirt Candy

86 Allen St.

A pioneer of the city’s vegetarian scene, Dirt Candy is still pushing flavor boundaries with whimsical and mind-bending combinations such as cauliflower cake and black garlic sticky toffee pudding. (And yes, the restaurant manages to make veggie-based desserts taste rich and delicious.) The 10-course tasting menu is highly recommended—the amuse bouche bites between courses shouldn’t be missed, either.

WHERE TO STAY

The Beekman Hotel

123 Nassau St.

Step across the marble threshold and into New York history. This landmark was one of the city’s first skyscrapers and has watched over lower Manhattan since 1761. The renewed design incorporates luxe vintage furnishings (think pink velvet and distressed leather) alongside jaw-dropping modern architecture in the form of a nine-story central atrium. Admire the old-meets-new glamour while sipping on a lobby bar cocktail before dining at the delectable in-house restaurant.

Casa Cipriani

10 South St.

This historic ferry terminal in lower Manhattan has been transformed by the Cipriani empire into an exclusive private members club and hotel. The design nods at the building’s nautical past, with luxury ocean-liner-style fittings such as lacquered mahogany and plush Italian upholstery. The views alone are worth the price of admission.

Pendry Manhattan West

438 West 33rd St.

At this casually elegant hotel, “Manhattan West” is more like “Manhattan West Coast” when you consider its relaxed vibe and textured aesthetic. This boutique hotel, with direct access to the High Line, is conveniently nestled between Midtown West and Chelsea. Here, modernism feels warm and wellness permeates beyond the fitness center.

TIP: Venture X cardholders can elevate their stay at luxury hotels and resorts like Pendry Manhattan West from the Capital One Travel Premier Collection with a $100 experience credit, complimentary daily breakfast for 2, and other premium benefits on every booking.

WHERE TO EXPLORE

South Street Seaport

Fulton & Water Streets

Bordered by the East River and Brooklyn Bridge and nestled near the Financial District, this neighborhood has seen it all. The historic buildings and cobblestone streets have been around since the Seaport’s bustling harbor days. The must-see Seaport Museum provides a fascinating overview of the neighborhood’s timeline. Your admission fee also includes the Wavertree ship docked just opposite the museum.

Tenement Museum

103 Orchard St.

This essential stop on your lower Manhattan visit sets the context for the city’s present day in its immigrant history. View lovingly recreated homes and businesses in its tenement buildings and tour the surrounding Lower East Side neighborhood with expert guides who provide a glimpse into the area’s stories and culture.

Bonnie Slotnick Cookbooks

28 E 2nd St.

In a city with something for every taste, this store is a special treat for the foodie. You could easily mistake the tiny space in the East Village for grandma’s cottage with its red brick façade and flowers. Inside, expert Slotnick presides over a curated selection of rare cookbooks and delightful tchotchkes.

Hudson Valley

WHERE TO STAY

The Wick

41 Cross St., Hudson, NY

Blocks away from the Hudson train station, this boutique hotel is the perfect base for your upstate explorations. The restored candle factory retains an industrial-chic aesthetic with high ceilings and iron light fixtures, but the décor mixes in plenty of comforts as well, like clawfoot soaking tubs and plush linens. It’s steps away from galleries, antiquing, and Hudson’s best restaurants, but the Wick also has a convenient electric shuttle to whisk you around town as well as a first-class fine dining establishment.

Scribner's Catskill Lodge

13 Scribner Hollow Rd., Hunter, NY

This thoughtfully reimagined ski lodge sits further into the Catskills with commanding views of the mountain range, especially at the circular bar in the cozy lounge and restaurant, Prospect. During the winter, make sure to bundle up and take your room’s s’mores kit down to the outdoor campfire for the complete apres-ski experience.

WHERE TO EXPLORE
