PREPPING

Making grocery lists doesn’t have to be a chore— especially when you enlist the assistance of your little helpers! Tack up a sheet of paper for each of the kiddos somewhere in your kitchen and let them add their requested grocery items throughout the week. Their help doesn’t just give you a head start on the to-buy list; it also gives them a say in snacks and meal items, which means they’re more likely to eat them.

You can also make ingredient planning a creative exercise. Place a snack like this Boar’s Head Colorful Kid's Snack Plate at the kitchen table or island and pull up the recipes for some of their favorite dishes, like Golden Classic® Chicken Sandwich Stars. Give them paper and colored pencils and ask them to write out all the ingredients from their chosen recipe to add to your grocery list. Encourage them to illustrate and color the page, too—whatever gets their creative juices and appetites flowing.

HOW TO MAKE Colorful kid’s snack plate

  • STEP 1 Scoop hummus into a small dish or ramekin and place on a platter.
  • STEP 2 Slice your red bell pepper in half, slicing one half into thin slices and shaping the other half into small stars using a cookie cutter. Place a couple stars on the hummus, and save the rest to top on your finished platter.
  • STEP 3 Arrange the remaining ingredients on the platter.
  • STEP 4 Serve it for your kids, and yourself, and enjoy for any meal or snack!

“Lunchboxes should be fun and exciting. I love using cookie cutters to make fun sandwich shapes for the kids, as well as having dippable items. When my kids get to interact with their food, they tend to enjoy it more.”
